How to solve the high oxygen consumption of oxygen respirators?

The oxygen respirator, also known as the isolated compressed oxygen respirator, isolates the respiratory system from the external environment. The device forms an internal circulation with the human respiratory system, providing oxygen from a high-pressure gas cylinder, and has a gas bag to store the gases during inhalation and exhalation.

The oxygen respirator, also known as a closed-circuit compressed oxygen respirator, isolates the respiratory system from the outside environment. The device forms an internal circulation with the human respiratory system, providing oxygen from a high-pressure gas cylinder, with gas bags storing the inhaled and exhaled gases. Introduced from the former Soviet Union in the 1950s, it has been produced for decades and is a widely used respiratory protection product with stable and reliable performance. It is widely applicable in industries (departments) such as petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, coal, mining, and laboratories, for specially trained personnel to wear and use in environments with toxic and harmful gases (at normal atmospheric pressure) during rescue, accident handling, medical assistance, or operations. In our daily use, we may encounter some issues, such as excessive oxygen consumption of the oxygen respirator. What should we do?

(1) If there is a leak in a low-pressure system, a distress signal must be immediately sent out to request teammates to help check and eliminate the issue. When checking the oxygen respirator, another person should assist by pinching the hose near the breathing valve, then forcefully exhaling. Use your hand to feel around the junction of the mask and face, as well as the outside of the hose, to check for leaks or damage. If a crack is found, pinch it with your hand and evacuate the hazardous area.

(2) If there is a leak in a high-pressure system, quickly close the oxygen cylinder, cut off the gas source, and evacuate the hazardous area.

(3) When using the oxygen respirator, the mask model must match the wearer's face shape. The user's hair should not be pressed inside the mask, and facial hair must be cleaned thoroughly to ensure a tight seal without leaks.

(4) During use, try to avoid using manual oxygen supply, as the manual supply has a large flow rate, which can lead to rapid oxygen consumption.

(5) It is recommended to add an adjustment fastening device at the top of the mask to facilitate the adjustment of the tightness of the upper part of the mask.
