What is the use of a filter canister? Where is it used?
A filter canister refers to a device that removes dust and toxic harmful substances from the air through the principles of physical adsorption and chemical reaction for human breathing. It is usually used in conjunction with a gas mask and is an essential consumable in chemical plants, oil refineries, and coal mines.
The following situations prohibit the use of filter canisters.
1.In an oxygen-deficient toxic gas environment (oxygen content in the air ≥ 19.5% (V/V)), it is not recommended to use self-aspirating filter-type gas masks.This is because gas masks and filter canisters are merely protective products that filter toxic gases and do not provide additional oxygen.
2.When the concentration of toxic gases in the surrounding environment exceeds 20,000 ppm, it is not recommended to use filter canisters.At this concentration, the activated carbon in the filter canister cannot completely neutralize some of the toxic gases from the air.
3. Filter canisters face the risk of failure after long-term storage or use and are prohibited from use.
Classification of filter canisters
According to the different connection methods between the filter canister and the mask, filter canisters can be divided into direct type and duct type..
1. Direct filter canister (filter box): Directly connected to the mask. If it is a single filter box, it is generally placed directly below the mouth area of the mask. Another type is the dual filter box, which is placed on both sides of the mask. Direct filter canisters (filter boxes) are generally of axial flow structure.
2. Duct type filter canister (filter box)Connected to the mask through a corrugated rubber duct, generally of a flow-through structure. Compared to direct filter canisters (filter boxes), its disadvantages are larger size and heavier weight, while its advantage is improved protective performance.
